Review date: October 29, 2026. A failed Spotify Premium renewal may not remove benefits immediately. Spotify can retry the payment over the following days. Start by checking the payment status, account region, card permissions and actual billing channel instead of submitting the same payment repeatedly.
Five basic checks
- Keep enough available balance or credit for the plan, taxes and exchange-rate movement.
- Confirm the card is not expired, frozen or replaced.
- Check that the issuer country and Spotify account region are compatible.
- Confirm online, foreign, verification and recurring-payment permissions.
- Make sure the issuer’s phone and email verification details still work.
Update the payment method
Sign in to the Spotify account page and open Your plan or subscription management. Re-enter the current card or choose another method shown by the account. If the page or connection fails, wait and try once from a supported private browser window. Avoid repeated identical submissions.
Why can an ordinary card still fail?
Recurring billing can be restricted even when ordinary purchases work. The issuer may block foreign recurring charges, require a 3D Secure check, apply a limit or decline a changed billing pattern. Check the bank app and ask the issuer for the specific reason.
If Premium has changed to Free
- Confirm the signed-in email and account.
- Check whether the plan was purchased through Spotify, Apple or Google Play.
- Review the failed renewal notice and payment status.
- Correct the card or account issue and retry through the original channel.
If the bank shows a charge
Distinguish pending from posted. A pending authorization may later be released. If a charge is posted but the account remains Free, keep the receipt and contact the merchant or store that processed the purchase before buying again.
Avoid duplicate subscriptions
Do not subscribe again through another platform until the original renewal status is clear. Check Spotify, Apple subscriptions and Google Play subscriptions separately. Cancellation and a refund request are different steps.
