Review date: October 29, 2026. The key to cancelling Microsoft 365 is identifying who bills the subscription. Direct web purchases, Apple App Store, Google Play and third-party sellers use different management routes. Uninstalling Office, deleting a card or signing out does not stop renewal.
Confirm the billing party
Check the card statement, confirmation email and Microsoft account Services and subscriptions page. A Microsoft descriptor is usually managed through Microsoft. Apple or Google charges must be cancelled in the relevant store. Carrier, employer-administered or retail subscriptions require the actual seller or administrator.
Cancel on the Microsoft website
- Sign in to Services and subscriptions with the purchasing Microsoft account.
- Find Microsoft 365 and select Manage.
- Select Cancel subscription or Turn off recurring billing and confirm.
- Save the expiry date or confirmation email.
If the page says Turn on recurring billing, renewal is usually already disabled. Access commonly continues through the paid period; follow the date shown in the account.
Cancel on iPhone or iPad
- Open iOS Settings and tap the Apple account name.
- Open Subscriptions and select Microsoft 365.
- Select Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If Microsoft 365 is not listed, check the Apple account and receipt. The subscription may not be billed by Apple.
Cancel through Google Play
- Open Google Play with the purchasing Google account.
- Open Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Select Microsoft 365, choose Cancel subscription and confirm.
Deleting the app does not stop Google Play renewal. Reopen the subscription page and confirm the status and expiry date.
Why might there be no cancel button?
- The wrong Microsoft, Apple or Google account is signed in.
- A carrier, retailer or employer administrator controls billing.
- Recurring billing is already disabled and an expiry date is shown.
- A family or business plan requires the owner or administrator.
- A recent renewal or plan change is still processing.
Cancellation is not a refund
Turning off renewal prevents a future charge but does not automatically refund the current period. Refund eligibility depends on the purchase channel, region and current terms. Keep the receipt and cancellation confirmation.
